The Arjuna Manor: Aging Structure to Luxury Hotel | Design Unfiltered

Who doesn’t love hotels? After all they are our safe escape in a world nearing an apocalypse?! (don’t read war, though). Jokes aside, luxury hotels which have their heritage intact are a rare sight. However, Team Design Unfiltered, in their recent escapade found one such gem nestled in the spiritual heart of Varanasi. We were astonished by the sight of this heritage-inspired, timeless creation and design. What followed was our usual drill to hunt down the minds behind this rare-to-be-found-ever beauty. For the rest of the details, we insist you to read through.

A story of revival and design, this project transforms a 40-year-old structure into a refined heritage luxury boutique hotel, thoughtfully bridging the elegance of the past with the sophistication of contemporary hospitality design.

Located on a 13,000 sqft plot, the building occupies a covered area of approximately 3,600 sq. ft.. Rather than replacing the aging structure, the design approach focused on preserving its architectural identity while reimagining its spaces for modern luxury and comfort.

The hotel now accommodates 21 spacious and luxurious guest rooms, each designed with an attached private balcony overlooking either the front courtyard or the lush green backyard, allowing guests to remain connected to the surrounding landscape. Generous proportions, natural light, and open balconies enhance the boutique hospitality experience.

Architecturally, the Arjuna Manor carries a classical character, defined by ornamented columns,  expansive balconies, and symmetrical proportions. These elements have been carefully  restored and refined to maintain the building’s timeless charm while introducing a fresh  sense of elegance.

One of the most defining features of the renovation done at The Arjuna Manor is the retention of the original double height hall, which has been transformed into the hotel’s grand lobby. Designed as a  welcoming and comforting space for guests, the lobby celebrates vertical volume and  architectural detailing, creating a sense of arrival while honouring the building’s heritage.

Through sensitive restoration and thoughtful design interventions, GC Architect &  Associates has breathed new life into an aging structure, turning it into a boutique  hospitality destination where heritage and contemporary design coexist gracefully.
