Have you ever looked at a fort closely? Close enough to understand and really sink into its history. We at, Design Unfiltered, have a rather peculiar approach to admire things even from a distance. For us, as may already know by now, every tangible thing has an unsaid history and is worthy of narrating a never-heard-of story. We interestingly stumbled while at our recent stay in the historic city of Jodhpur. While it is a “resort” and a hospitality property meant to do what it is supposed to do, the charm it had on us is beyond just words. (but again, that is our job and we’re good at it, so don’t worry).
Jokes aside, a closer look reveals how Marugarh Resort quietly translates Jodhpur’s architectural legacy into a contemporary language of stone, light, and space. A must visit is the scorching summer of 2026. The philosophy of its design seems shaped through courtyards, arches, and the desert’s changing light. Read more about its design brief and execution in the article below:
Rising from the earthy landscape of Jodhpur, Marugarh Resort is a contemporary interpretation of Rajasthan’s architectural legacy. Built in locally quarried sandstone, the design draws from the scale and character of traditional palaces and forts while maintaining clarity and restraint in its expression.
UnFiltered Design Concept

The entry unfolds through a majestic arched gateway — a threshold between heritage and the present — leading into a composition of domes, chhatris, and colonnades that trace the desert sky. Each element, from the poised symmetry of the façade to the rhythm of its shaded verandas, celebrates the dialogue of light and shadow upon stone.
Anchored within lush gardens and framed by the hillside, the built form breathes with the landscape. Courtyards, terraces, and open corridors choreograph a seamless connection between interior intimacy and the expanse beyond. In the desert’s arid breath, deep overhangs, robust masonry, and natural ventilation craft a haven of repose and cool comfort.
Marugarh is not a replication of the past but a reinterpretation — a confluence of memory and modernity. It transforms the language of tradition into a contemporary symphony of balance, material honesty, and quiet luxury, where every arch and corridor speaks the poetry of place.
Unfiltered Material Diaries

Marugarh Resort reimagines the royalty of Rajasthani architecture using clear proportions, symmetry, and honest use of materials. Built in red sandstone, it combines arches, domes, and chhatris within a layout of courtyards and shaded verandas that respond to the climate.
Passive cooling strategies, deep overhangs, and cross-ventilation help maintain comfort in Jodhpur’s desert conditions. Bringing together tradition and modern needs, the resort expresses a quiet elegance—where stone, light, and landscape come together to create a timeless experience.
