Admit it, small talk is often futile. Let’s take a straight plunge and divulge more about this outstanding residential design by Aviral Design Studio. Here we go…

UnFiltered Brief

The client envisioned a home that embodies a single, seamless, and wholesome tone, where every space flows into the next with a consistent sense of calm. Located on a corner, park-facing plot, the residence was to balance openness and privacy while creating a strong experiential journey—especially through the interiors.

UnFiltered Design Concept

The residence is conceived as a carefully calibrated sequence of spaces structured around clear visual and spatial axes. The planning establishes a direct visual connection from the entrance to the rear courtyard, drawing light and greenery deep into the house and setting up an immediate sense of openness upon entry.

The formal drawing room is positioned at the front, ensuring that social interactions do not disturb the privacy of the inner living spaces. A synchronised partition subtly mediates between public and semi-private zones, maintaining visual continuity while controlling movement and privacy.

Given the inward-looking nature of the entry, the interiors play a pivotal role in defining the character of the house. As desired by the client, the moment one enters, the house unfolds in a calming, neutral palette, creating a consistent and grounded atmosphere throughout.

This restrained backdrop is deliberately punctuated with moments of drama at key spatial junctures. The heart of the house is marked by a double-height dining space, where there is a sudden shift in volume. This space is accentuated by Patterned marble flooring, a high-low double-height chandelier, automated double-height curtains, visual connections to greens flanking the dining area. These elements collectively heighten the spatial experience without disrupting the overarching tonal harmony. The dining seamlessly transitions into an open kitchen with a central island, reinforcing the idea of fluid, contemporary living while maintaining visual continuity across spaces.

While the common areas are unified by a consistent palette and spatial language, the bedrooms on the first floor were designed to reflect individual identities. Each of the three siblings’ bedrooms responds to their personal colour preferences and personalities, allowing for individuality within the larger framework of the house’s cohesive design language.

Running parallel to the dining and kitchen is the open staircase core, which becomes a strong vertical and sculptural element within the house. Extending up to the second floor, the staircase is articulated through a wooden deck base with a sculptural art piece, stucco-textured walls with incised linear lighting, warm veneer cladding that accentuates the vertical volume. The interplay of light and shadow through double-height openings further adds depth, movement, and a dynamic character to this central zone.

The second floor is envisioned as a more intimate, recreational zone, housing a cosy home theatre with an integrated bar. This level opens out to a terrace that frames expansive views of the surrounding landscape, offering a relaxed retreat while reinforcing the home’s connection to its context and the outdoors.

UnFiltered Material Choices

  • A warm, neutral colour palette of soft greys, beiges, taupe, and off-whites establishes visual continuity and a timeless interior language across the house.
  • Premium Italian marble flooring, used throughout, forms the primary material base. In key spaces such as the double-height dining area, the marble is articulated through a subtle geometric pattern, introducing depth and spatial emphasis while maintaining tonal restraint.
  • The interiors are characterised by matte and satin-finish surfaces, reducing glare and allowing materials to be experienced in a calm, understated manner.
  • Upholstery, fabric panels, and soft furnishings are integrated to soften the stone-dominated palette, enhancing tactile comfort and improving acoustic quality within larger volumes.
  • Wood and warm veneer finishes are used selectively—particularly along the staircase and feature walls—to add warmth, accentuate verticality, and balance the neutrality of the palette.

The project is a careful balance between uniformity and variation—a home where a singular tonal narrative binds all spaces together, while thoughtful shifts in volume, light, material, and detailing create moments of richness and surprise. The result is a residence that feels calm yet layered, seamless yet expressive, and deeply personal while remaining architecturally coherent.
